A cure for cancer.

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

The following is taken from an article from NewScientist.com.

It sounds almost too good to be true: a cheap and simple drug that kills almost all cancers by switching off their “immortality”. The drug, dichloroacetate (DCA), has already been used for years to treat rare metabolic disorders and so is known to be relatively safe.

It also has no patent, meaning it could be manufactured for a fraction of the cost of newly developed drugs.

MTV subsidary to buy Y2M college online newspaper network

Saturday, August 5th, 2006

Y2M is the parent of College Publisher, the largest interactice network of online college newspapers in the U.S. The network has 450 online campus papers that offer local news, sports, weather, event listings and more.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2006.

The puchase is in line with MTV Network’s strategy to expand its portfolio of online music, gaming, news and entertainment.

New online features will come available to the affiliates and the papers will also have access to the network’s base of more than 120 top-tier advertisers, according to MTV Networks in a release.

Virtual School ready to ‘admit’ students

Saturday, August 5th, 2006

The Virtual School of Minnesota, formerly the Virtual Outdoors Academy, is ready to enroll students for fall sessions, said program creator and Fergus Falls teacher Jesse Thorstad.

The school is designed for students in grades 2 through 12 looking for a less traditional educational experience, said Thorson. Students already taking classes online or being homeschooled are top candidates, though the classes are for anyone.

Students will complete the bulk of their coursework online, and the schedule will follow the regular District 544 school year.

Global Student Network will provide the core content, but Thorstad and his business partner, Dave Ellis, will give their online students something more.
